Disneyland Hong Kong
The first Disneyland resort situated in California was founded by Walt Disney in 1955. It was followed by the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida in 1971, Tokyo Disney Resort in 1983 and Disneyland Resort Paris in 1992. Disney's fifth resort opened in Hong Kong (香港迪士尼樂園) on 12 September 2005. The resort is situated on Penny's Bay (Chok Ko Wan), Lantau Island and comprises of the world-famous theme park, Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre, Disneyland Hotel and Disney's Hollywood Hotel.
Hong Kong Disneyland is owned and administered by Hong Kong International Theme Parks Limited (HKITP); an 1999 joint venture commenced between Hong Kong Government and the Walt Disney Company. Hong Kong's vast investment towards the resort speaks volumes of benefits for the region; creation of jobs, tourist industry and foreseeable future financial benefits. Hong Kong Disneyland differentiates from other Disney resorts by embracing Chinese cultural elements, thus seamlessly blending with the local region while simultaneously targeting an international audience. During the construction of Hong Kong Disneyland, the majority of employees have been training at other Disney parks across the world while waiting for their own resort to be completed. Although Hong Kong Disneyland is the smallest of all Disney resorts so far, there is an additional 40% space which is reserved for future expansion of the theme park.
At present, Hong Kong Disneyland attractions include: Main Street U.S.A, Adventureland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Main Street U.S.A. is a replica of a typical American town of the early 1900s with a variety of dining and shopping amenities found across the streets. Adventureland embarks on a journey through exotic landscapes and jungle river cruises. Fantasyland will capture the heart of the younger audience, offering tales of castles, classic stories and magic. Tomorrowland is a space odyssey towards the future, featuring spaceships and intergalactic journeys.
Hong Kong Disneyland is a magical experience for the entire family or anyone feeling 'young at heart'. The resort is easily accessible from anywhere within Hong Kong. The Disneyland Resort Station of the Mass-Transit Railway (MTR) is the ideal way of getting there. Alternatively, buses (Citybus, Long Win Bus) and taxis (red, green, blue) provide transportation to, and from the resort. The five-star Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and the four-star Disney's Hollywood Hotel provide convenient accommodation within walking distance from the resort. The Hong Kong Disneyland website offers an online ticket booking facility, opening times, and contact numbers for hotel reservations.
